Ruth Elizabeth Curry Stephenson, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017. She was born in New Paris, Ohio on June 9, 1913.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents, John & Viola Curry; sister, Dorothy (Paul) Brown; and a special nephew, John R. Brown Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Sara (Bruce) Miller; 2 granddaughters; 1 grandson; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Tom (Carol) Stephenson; a special niece, Diane Brown; special great niece & nephew, Jana & John Brown along with numerous other nieces, nephews & friends.
Ruth spent her early years on the family farm in New Paris before moving to Oxford, Ohio, where she met and married William D. Stephenson. They were happily married 58 years when he was suddenly called home July 15, 1996. During World War II she worked for 3 years in Providence, R.I. with the Red Cross Nurses Aid Program and the Rheem Manufacturing Co., where Liberty ships were built. She returned to Oxford for a brief time where she worked at the Dean of Fine Arts office at Miami University. From there she answered an ad and found herself in Washington DC working as a typist at the Pentagon for another 3 years while Bill was stationed in Italy. Ruth was always active in church and volunteer work wherever she lived. Her final move was to Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in 1985, where she spent the remainder of her days. Ruth was a member of Monroe Presbyterian Church. She loved nature, gardening, music, traveling and sports. She was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, the Bengals and Ohio State.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at Mary H. Kittredge Chapel at Ohio Living Mt. Pleasant, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe with Chaplain Karen Fleming officiating.
In lieu of flowers Ruth requested donations be made to Ohio Living Mount Pleasant Life Care Fund, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, OH 45050.
