Ruth Taylor Miller, 84, of Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 at Middletown Regional Hospital. Mrs. Miller was born in Zion City, Illinois, the daughter of Vera Ruth (Mudge) Taylor and Arthur Garfield Taylor. She held a number of secretarial and administrative positions, including Assistant Director of Development at The Presbyterian Home, Evanston, Illinois. She was active in the Mount Pleasant Retirement community. She held positions of leadership as Secretary of Mount Pleasant Women's Auxiliary; member of OPRS Foundation Committee; and Secretary of Special Events Committee and of the Mount Pleasant Residents' Association. In addition, she volunteered in the gift shop and in the Alzheimers Unit. She was also active in the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church (now known as the Monroe Presbyterian Church), where, among many other activities, she served on the Session of the Church.
She loved writing and after retirement to Mt. Pleasant, focused primarily on poetry. In 1995, she published a compilation of her poems, Paper Rainbows. In 1998, she won first place in the poetry category at the AOPHA Art and Writing Show (Southern Region). Her poems have been published in the Monroe Times, the Ohio Times, and the West Central Tribune in Willmar, Minnesota, as well as in several other local organizations and magazines. She was recognized as a lifetime member of the International Society of Poets, and also enjoyed playing the recorder with a group of her musical friends.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 62 years, Reverend Wesley G. Miller of Monroe; her son Donald W. Miller of Hazelwood, MO; her daughter Margaret E. Kane of Yellow Springs, OH; her granddaughter, Penelope Pearl Heinigk of Denver, CO; her brother Arthur Taylor of Peoria, AZ.; and her sisters Dorothy Clausen of Downers Grove, Ill. and Gloria Davis of Indianola, IA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her sister Helen, and her brother Clark.
Reverend Sam Gibb and Chaplain Stan Gockel will officiate the memorial service.
