Shirley M. Diver 93, of Middletown died on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Atrium Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 28, 1915 in Milford, Ohio to parents Collins M. and Anna May (Vanlandingham) Hill.
Mrs. Diver was involved with children and education a large part of her life as a teacher, a leader in the YMCA Junior Achievement program, a Girl Scout leader and a Sunday School teacher at the First Presbyterian Church. She was a vital part of Diver's Garden and Pet Supplies between 1938 until recently. Shirley might have had a career in teaching, had she not been required by the school system to quit her job when she married. She graduated from Miami University with a degree in education. She came to Maple Park School and taught there for four years. In 1992 she received the Stuart Ives Memorial Award from the YMCA for service to youth. She enjoyed hiking with her six grandchildren and amazed them with her knowledge of local birds, not only by sight, but by sound. She also was an Elder, Deacon and Trustee at the Church.
Mrs. Diver was preceded in death by her husband Norval E. Diver in 1978.
She is survived by a son; Daniel ( Manami White) Diver, a daughter; Sharon (Robert) Fuge and Norval's daughter; Nancy Walck, one sister; Mary Lee Scott, six grandchildren; Rachel (Kevin) Williams, Aaron (Jamee) Diver, Ashleigh Diver, Kevin (Shelley) Fuge, Kari ( Dewey Pressley) Fuge and Keith Fuge, four great-grandchildren; Jacob Castro, Joselyn Castro, Liliane Fuge and Reese Diver.
