Steve J. Mikula

Steve J. Mikula, 87, of Middletown, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Czechoslovakia on August 15, 1922 to parents John and Apoliena Mikula.

Mr. Mikula worked for AK Steel as first ladleman in the Open Hearth #2, retiring after 27 years of service. He served his country in the United States Army with the 28th Division during World War II, earning five battle stars. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and the VFW Post 3809.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Sakala) Mikula; one daughter, Mary (Jeffrey) Swigert; four sons, James Mikula, Joseph Mikula, Stephen (Bev) Mikula and Thomas Mikula & Deanann McLaughlin; brother, John Mikula; sister, Pauline Elak; five grandchildren, Michael (Hannah) Swigert, John Swigert, Brian Swigert, Stephanie (Benjamin) Bledsoe and Sarah Mikula; and six great grandchildren, Kaylee Swigert, Jacob Swigert, Kyle Swigert, Addison Bledsoe, Madelynn Bledsoe and Emilie Bledsoe.

Steve was preceded in death by son, Mark Mikula; his parents; a brother; and a sister.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 21, 2009 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church, 1405 First Avenue, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., (at Bonita Dr.) Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
