Ted W. Karchner, Jr.

With great sadness we announce the passing of Ted W. Karchner, Jr age 91 on Dec 25, 2024, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Community, Monroe, Ohio.

Ted was born in Middletown, Ohio on July 3, 1933 to Ted W. Karchner, Sr and Dorothy Helvern Karchner. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1951 and participated in the Middie Swim team and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended college at the University of Cincinnati graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956. His fraternity was Pi Kappa Alpha. While at UC he co-opted at Armco Steel where he was hired after college. Ted ended his career at Armco in the International Division where he traveled the world with Nancy. After retiring from Armco Steel, he and two business associates formed Columbia Industrial Sales, an international O-ring distribution company.

After retirement Ted and Nancy joined the Mt. Pleasant (Ohio Living) Community in Monroe, Ohio, living for nearly 20 years in their cottage before recently moving into an on-campus apartment. Ted served as the president of the Monroe Ohio Mount Pleasant Board of Directors and served on many Mount Pleasant committees. Ted also served on the Middletown Planning Commission.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and brother Allan L. Karchner. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy Mackinnon Karchner; daughter, Lisa K. Frisby (Samuel); grandchildren, Ben (Kelli) Frisby, Rachel (Luke) Kunka and Rebecca (Zach) McNutt; and great grandchildren, Molly Frisby, Morgan Frisby, Parker McNutt and Henry McNutt.

Ted will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Special thanks to the staff at Monroe Mt. Pleasant Assisted Living facilities for the care and compassion they gave to Ted.

Keeping with Ted’s wishes a private Celebration of Life with family will be held in the near future.
