Thomas N. "Tom" Braun, 82, formerly of Middletown, more recently living in Springboro, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties of natural causes with his family by his side. He was born in Dayton on October 10, 1927 to parents Germain and Erma (Schommer) Braun.
Tom attended St. John's and graduated from Middletown High School in 1945, after which he served in the United States Navy on the USS Springfield. Tom then attended Miami University, where he met his wife-to-be, Margarethe Davis. He graduated from Miami in 1951 with a degree in accounting, was married in 1952 and began employment in Middletown in the Accounting Department at Gardner Board and Carton Company. Tom earned promotions through the corporation, ultimately being named area comptroller at Gardner's parent company, Diamond International, where he worked for over 30 years until retirement in 1985. He then worked for 3 years with Cincinnati-based Heekin Can Company. Tom and Marge attended St. Mary's Catholic Church after moving to Springboro in 2001 and were both active in church activities. Tom enjoyed traveling and routinely visited family and friends throughout the US and particularly enjoyed family reunions. He and his wife spent many summers on an island in Maine, which led to a hobby of house-swapping. Tom will be remembered as a devoted husband and dedicated father and grandfather.
Mr. Braun is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marge Braun; sons, Ted (Jane) Braun of Sugar Land, Texas, Greg (Florette) Braun of Jupiter, Florida and Andy (Susan) Braun of Beaverton, Oregon; daughter, Linda (Jerry) Novotny of Shabbona, Illinois; brother, Dale (Ruth Ann) Braun of Middletown; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law of New York; special cousin, Sue Mumford of Florida; eight grandchildren; one step granddaughter; and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Peter Novotny.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 115 S. Main Street, Franklin with Father Jim Manning as celebrant. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH. Entombment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.
