Vergil Grant Hawkins, Jr, 92, of Middletown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. He was born in Middletown on March 6, 1920 to parents Vergil Grant and Anna (Jones) Hawkins.
Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margaret (Gill); special sons, Jack (Carol) & Kevin (Sherry); 5 precious grandchildren and 10 precious great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Helen Akers, Gladys Schraub, Martha Pierson, Patricia Garrett & Rebecca Sheley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Virginia Gullo & Mary Hollenbaugh.
Vergil served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war he was employed by Armco Steel Corp. in their Spiral Pipe Division and retired after 42 years of service. Vergil was a member of the Trenton Mennonite Church.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Reverend Timothy Draxler officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Fairmound Cemetery in West Elkton with military honors conducted by Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Miami Valley, 46 North Detroit St., Xenia, Ohio 45385.
