Victoria S. Cashman-Martin, 69, of Middletown, died Monday, April 13, 2015, at her residence. She was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on August 16, 1945 to parents John and Loretta (Dispenza) Gentile.
Victoria's lifelong career in and service to judicial administration began after earning an M.A. in sociology from St. Louis University. Shortly thereafter she joined in performing pioneering research at The National Center for State Courts founded by the late U.S. Chief Justice, William E. Burger. In furtherance to her commitment to fairness through the rule of law she was involved over her life with numerous organizations focused on the improvement of the administration of justice. She is a former executive at LEXIS-NEXIS in Dayton, Ohio and continued to serve as a Senior Advisor at LEXIS-NEXIS as an independent consultant until last year. She was active in the American Bar Association's Judicial Division, the National Association of Woman Judges, and she was the editor of the ABA's State Court Organization Profile Series. In addition to her many articles in professional publications she was the principal author of a Monogram on Drug Court Management Information Systems published by the U.S. Department of Justice. Ms. Cashman was an active board member of the Council for Court Excellence in Washington, DC since 1989. She was a founding Chair of the Forum on the Advancement of Court Technology (FACT). She was recognized for her service to women in the legal profession with the Florence K. Murray Award, presented to a non-judge who, by an example or otherwise, has influenced women to pursue legal careers, open doors for women attorneys, or advanced opportunities for women within the legal profession. Her development efforts also sparked several NAWJ projects including Color of Justice programs which encourage teenagers to consider careers in law and judging."
Mrs. Cashman-Martin is survived by her husband, Bradley Martin; son, Keith Cashman; brother, John Gentile; sisters, Mary Jean O'Connor, Judy McClimans & Lin Hutaff; grandchildren, Matthew Cashman & David Cashman; nieces, Melinda McClimans & Margo McClimans; and nephews, Patrick O'Connor & Griggs Hutaff.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her niece, Gade Hutaff.
She was a member of Holy Family Parish. Memorial Mass will be held Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church, 201 Clark Street, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant.
