Vincenzo Mazzarella, 92, of Middletown, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. He was born in Salza Irpina, Italy on July 30, 1919 to parents Pietro and Mary Ann (Sora) Mazzarella.
Vincenzo was a member of the Holy Family Parish, St. John's Church. He was an artillery spotter for the Italian Army during World War II and collaborated with the United States Army in defeating the Axis Powers in North Africa. He retired from Armco in 1980 after 29 years of service as a crane operator in the Hot Strip Mill.
Mr. Mazzarella is survived by his wife, Josephine Mazzarella; son, Julius Mazzarella; daughter, Mary (James) Younger; sister, Agnes and grandson, Jason Younger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Arthur Mazzarella and sister, Michellina Sora.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum.
