Virginia VanDerVoort Huppi
July 7, 1931 – January 19, 2015
Virginia Mae VanDerVoort, 83, was born in Portland, ME to Mary Elizabeth Wright and Rolland Curtis VanDerVoort. Her formative years were spent in Maine and Boston, MA.
Virginia graduated from Westbrook High School, Westbrook, ME in 1949 and Simmons College, Boston MA, with a BS in Chemistry in 1953.
Virginia married Rodney Grant Huppi in 1952 in Westbrook, ME. Until Rod, an exploration geologist, retired in 1987, Virginia and Rod toured the United States. After retirement Virginia and Rod toured the world. Virginia was Rod's life companion.
Virginia worked as an aid in a class for the blind/ visually impaired. As a volunteer she transcribed many text books and other books into braille for many years, and volunteered with the Lung Association particularly in Pleasant Hill, CA. Virginia loved to read and plan her travels. She was known for her detailed and entertaining travel reports. Virginia lived throughout CA, Washington and Alaska. Most of her later years were spent in Pleasant Hill, CA until she needed to be near family in the Midwest.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Rodney G Huppi, died 4/22/2013. Virginia is survived by her sister, Diana Maranzano, two sons; Greg Huppi and Glenn (& Caroline Maxwell) Huppi, two grandchildren Eric (& Maggie Geddes) Huppi, Tera (& George) Huppi-Preussel and to date one great-grand child Norah Huppi. Virginia will be missed by many friends, neighbors and the extended Huppi family across the United States.
