Virginia Mae Egelston of Middletown Ohio passed away peacefully at Atrium Hospital on the morning of November 12, 2009 just shy of her 92nd birthday. Virginia was born December 16, 1917 to Ellsworth and Mollie Miller and became a resident of Middletown Ohio when she moved here from Newport Kentucky with her parents to open Miller's Jewelry Store in 1927. After attending Middletown Business School, Virginia married Robert Egelston and together with his parents they owned and operated the Avalon Dairy and Farm and Egelston's Grocery Store for many years. Virginia also worked with her parents in the jewelry store on a part time basis throughout their ownership.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband in 1954 and began rearing and educating her children on her own. She attended First Christian Church and she was active in their Sunday School Program and in her Circle for many years. She devoted her life to her family and to giving her children a good home. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Retired Colonel Joseph A. Galemmo of Shaker Run in Lebanon, Ohio and by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Terri Egelston of Euclid Street in Middletown with whom she made her home for the past two years. She is also survived by her brother, Donald E. Miller and wife, Ella Mae, of Middletown and their family.
Virginia is also survived by her grandchildren, Brad and Marcia Egelston and their two year old twins, Daniel and Carrie of Middletown and Leigh Ann and Rob Rizek of Westerville OH who are expecting a son in March, Joe and Mary Ann Galemmo and their 4 daughters of Cape Girardeau, MO, Glen and Kristine Galemmo and their 5 children of Hyde Park in Cincinnati, Shari and Mark Zawadzki and their 3 daughters of Dublin, OH and Carolyn and Rick Purvis and their 2 children of Rocklin, CA. She will be missed by everyone including her constant companion of the last year, Heidi, her Belgian Shepherd and her dearest friend, Kitty Yost, with whom she talked every day.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 10:30 AM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, with Reverend Laureen Roe officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Internment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
