Wheeler Elam, 77, of Middletown, Ohio, died on March 20, 2003, at Dayton V.A. Hospital. He was born in Lee City, Kentucky on February 7, 1926 to parents Dennie and Myrtle (Patrick) Elam.
Mr. Elam worked in the east processing department for Armco Steel Corp. for 34 years, retiring March 31, 1990. He attended Unity Baptist Church. Wheeler served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing, playing the mandolin, doing carpentry work, and he loved bluegrass music.
Wheeler was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruby Leforce.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. (Pence) Elam;one daughter: Diana (Joe) Phillabaum of Middletown; granddaughters, Angela D. Kraft of Middletown, and Kristie A. Phillabaum of Hamilton; great grandson, Noah Kraft; brother: Alton (Ann) Elam of Middletown; brothers-in-law, John (Phyllis) Pence of Middletown, and Randel (Paula) Pence of Trenton; sisters-in-law, Shirley ((Jerry) McIntosh of Winchester, KY, and Joy Cox of Middletown; mother-in-law, Beulah Taulbee of Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 24, 2003 at 1:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Colewell officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 23, 2003 from 2-5 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard.
