William C. Leigh Ii

William C. Leigh II, 84, of Middletown, died Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on August 10, 1918 to parents Helen (Breckenridge) and William C. Leigh I.

Mr. Leigh graduated from Miami University in June 1941 with a bachelor degree. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilom Fraternity. Following graduation, he joined Armo Steel Corp. as a sales trainee. He was commissioned as Ensign, U.S. Navy in early 1942, and served in the Amphibious Forces in Pacific aboard the USS LST662 as Gunnery Officer, then Executive Officer, and later Commanding Officer. He left the U.S. Navy with the rank of Lt. Commander.
He served again in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War.

Mr. Leigh returned to Armco in 1946 and served in commercial assignments in Pittsburgh, Houston, and Middletown. He was also the Director of the Service Center Relations for Armco. He retired in February 1981 as director of marketing, Eastern Steel. He was the former mayor of the City of Hedwig Village in Texas prior to returning to Middletown. He was a member of Browns Run Country Club and the Church of the Ascension.

Mr. Leigh is survived by his wife, Mary Dupps Leigh of Middletown; two daughters Elizabeth (Robert) Leigh Letterly of Lincoln, Illinois, and Laura (Ted) Leigh Ferris of Burr Ridge, Illinois; two sons, William (Sharon) Leigh III of Houston, Texas, and David M. (Linda) Leigh of Englewood, Colorado; one sister Emma Davidson of South Port, Maine; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Morgan Leigh in January 1990; his parents;three sisters Genevieve McCandless, Margaret Porter, and Virginia Baer; and 2 grandchildren.

Memorial service will be Friday, February 21, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Church of the Ascension with Rev. Walter Mycoff officiating. There will be no visitation.
