William F. Schlotter

November 12, 1913 — October 22, 2016

William Frederick "Bill" Schlotter passed away on October 22, 2016 at 102 years old in White Lake, MI. He was only three weeks shy of his 103rd birthday. He was born in Souix Falls, South Dakota to the parents Frederick William Schlotter and Teresa (Rooth) Schlotter. Bill, Dad, Grandpa embodied all the exceptional values of the Greatest Generation: humility, grit, reliability, conviction...faith...hope and love! His legacy will live on forever.

On May 13, 1940 in Oakley, Minnesota, Bill married Mary Louise Umhoefer. They were united in marriage for 62 years, before Mary Lou's death in 2003.

Until the Great Depression, Bill attended the South Dakota School of Mines and later received his Aeronautical Degree from Ryan Aircraft. With an early interest in flying, Bill learned to fly before you needed a license later earning his pilot's license from 1938-1976. During WW II, Bill worked for Stinson Aircraft in Wayne, MI then later with Aeronca Aircraft in Middletown, Ohio as an engineer, contract negotiator and marketing manager for 30 years.

He served as president of Aeronca Employee Credit Union for fifteen years and was on the Middletown Chamber of Commerce Industrial Council. He proudly volunteered as a driver for the Red Cross for over 25 years. Scouting was always an interest of Bill's; he volunteered for 35 years and received scouting's highest award Silver Beaver in 1963 and St. George Award in 1970.

After his retirement from Aeronca in 1976, Bill and Mary Lou took many road trips across the United States mostly on their way to visit family. Bill always had his clubs ready for a game of golf. He received many awards for his pottery. A piece of his pottery was given to each grandchild as a wedding gift.

The Schlotter Family have been members of Holy Trinity Church for many years. Bill was a devout Catholic being a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus.

Bill is survived by two daughters and a son. Mary (Schlotter) Hickey, Irvine, CA, Josephine (John) Schrader, Canton, OH, Fred (Theresa) Schlotter, White Lake, MI. Eight grandchildren Marianne Schrader, Chicago, IL; Elizabeth Courtiss, Irvine, CA; Deborah Hickey, San Francisco, CA; Adrienne Soper, Yonkers, NY;Brian Hickey, San Diego, CA; William F. Schlotter, Burlingame CA; Steven Schlotter, Louisville, KY; Christopher Schrader, Akron, OH; Also surviving, five wonderful great-grand children.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Louise (Umhoefer) Schlotter and his sister Marie (Schlotter) Fitzgerald.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Oct 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Parish -Holy Trinity Church with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. Entombment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that you make a donation to Holy Family Parish, Society of St. Vincent dePaul, Middletown, Ohio or Saint Patrick's Parish, Society of St.Vincent dePaul White Lake, Michigan.
