William J. “Bill” Grant of Monroe, OH, died Friday morning in the company of his family. He was 79.
Mr. Grant was born in St. Louis, MO on May 2, 1925. He spent his childhood in Ashland KY and graduated from Greenbriar Military Academy in Lewisburg, WV in 1942. He enlisted in the US Army
in 1943 and saw combat action in 4 campaigns with the 1st Armored Division in Italy. After returning from Europe in 1946 he obtained a BA in Business Administration from the Babson Institute in Wellesley, MA in 1949.
Mr. Grant was a Product Supervisor at Armco Steel Co, a position he retired from in 1982 after
33 years. He was also elected to Monroe Village council in 1970. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and the BPOE #257.
Mr. Grant is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane (Gute) Grant; four children, Timothy M. Grant and Susan M.(Dan) MacLeod both of Columbus and Nora E. (Edward) Dobrozsi and H.Brian Grant (Barbara) from Middletown; nine grandchildren, Aaron and Rudy Grant, Evan Dobrozsi, Robyn, Peter, Jack and Will Grant and Ellie and Emma MacLeod; and his brother, Hugh Boehmer (Marilyn) Grant
of Middletown.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh Bernard Grant in 1948 and Ella (Boehmer) Grant in 1954.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Jan 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 330 Lebanon St., Monroe, with Father Terry Meehan as celebrant. Visitation will be prior to Mass from 5-7 p.m. at the church. Interment will be, Tuesday at 10 a.m. at North Monroe Cemetery.
