William J. "Bill" Sweeney, 82, of Middletown, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at home. He was born in Middletown, Ohio on September 28, 1928 to parents James H. and Beatrice (McMahon) Sweeney Sr.
William served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He received a Bronze Star and 2 Purple Hearts. He was a member of American Legion Post 218, Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #131, Middletown Elks Lodge #257 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3809. Mr. Sweeney was a member of Holy Family Parish. Bill was a master plumber and he served on the exam board and code enforcement for the City of Middletown.
Mr. Sweeney is survived by his sons, William Joseph (Deb) Sweeney II, Thomas B. (Karen) Sweeney; daughter, Margaret A. (Martin) Fedders and granddaughters, Stephanie P. (Adam) Holloway and Kelly Sweeney; great granddaughter, Claire E. Holloway and many other family and friends.
William was preceded in death by his parents and Wife, Jean B. Truesdell, and brother, James H. Sweeney
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church, 201 Clark Street, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH. Interment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.
