William Lee Schenck, 81, of Wayne Township, died on April 27, 2003, at his daughter’s home in St. Clair Township. He was born in Wayne Township on December 31, 1921 to parents Shafor and Gertrude (Schmidt) Schenck.
Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1941 - 1945. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and Air Medal. He flew 73 combat missions in Burma, China, and India Theatre.
Bill had a great love and respect for the land. He was active throughout his life in agriculture, his community, and treasured making his life long home at Spring Valley Farm. He has been recognized for his outstanding efforts in conservation throughout the years, being awarded the Butler County Soil & Water Conservation Award in 2002. He was a member of the Butler County Farm Bureau, Butler County Pork Producers, Jim Trimbles Porch Sitters, and former member of the Wayne Township Fire Department.
Mr. Schenck was preceded in death by his wife Edna Mary Schenck on April 25, 1990, one son, Richard Shafor Schenck in 1971, his parents, and a brother, Donald Schenck.
He is survived by two daughters: Judith Lynn (Steve) Bartels of St. Clair Township, and Sharon Ann (Dr. Donald) Alford of Hanover Township; one son: Jeff Schenck of Middletown; grandchildren, Brian & Amy Bartels and Marcus & Jonathan Alford; devoted nieces and nephew, Gloria Hoelle, Carolyn Hileman, Cathy Welsh, Donna Murphy, Joanne Crowe, Penie Halsey. and Michael Schenck; and special friends, Eleanor Locke and Deborah, Kimberlee, Terry, Nancy, & Andrew Locke. Bill is also survived by many other family and friends, especially the friends at Madison Food Mart.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 1, 2003 at 11:30 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., with Reverend Brooks Heck officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Elk Creek Cemetery, in Madison Township.
The family wishes to express their special thanks to Dr. Cheryl Skinner and the nurses on Main 1 and Main C at Middletown Regional Hospital.
