William P. Stiles

March 17, 1930 — January 13, 2011

Stiles, William Patrick, a long-time resident of Monroe, Ohio died Thursday, January 13th, 2011 at Atrium Medical Center of complications from a heart attack and pneumonia. He was 80 years old. His family wants to thank his doctors and nurses for the fine care he received in making his last days as comfortable as possible. They also want to thank the staff members who cared for them during their visits to the hospital.

He was born in Middletown, Ohio on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, 1930, to William C. Stiles and Adele (Regensburg) Stiles. His parents had not planned on naming him Patrick, but the delivery room nurses convinced them to make Patrick his middle name since he was born on St. Patrick's Day. He would always be known as "Bill" to his friends, but his family would always call him "Pat". He is survived by his younger brother Rick Stiles, and his wife Nancy of Henderson, Nevada.

Pat attended Holy Trinity High School and graduated from Middletown High School in 1948. He began his career as a mechanical designer at Aeronca in 1956 and worked there for 10 years. He retired in 1997 from Dubois Chemical in Sharonville after 27 years there as a mechanical engineer.

Pat is survived by his adoring wife Betty L. Stiles. He married the love of his life on January 28th, 1955. For 56 years of marriage, he would tell the story of when he first met her, and you would always hear his voice tremble with the emotion of the moment, when he spoke of her being the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. They were practically inseparable for all of those 56 years.

Pat is also survived by his three loving children; Jon Stiles and his wife Connie, of Batavia, his daughter Jennie Ellers and her husband Brian of Liberty Township, and his daughter Teri Sylvester of West Chester. He also leaves behind five wonderful grandchildren; Matthew Sylvester, Megan Sylvester, Andrew Sylvester, Cody Ellers, and Ryan Ellers. Pat's latest joy in his life was his new great-grandson Chase Kamphaus, son of Megan Sylvester.

Pat Stiles had a life-long passion for scouting. He entered the Boy Scouts and eventually became a member of the Air Scout Squadron, the Blue Falcons, sponsored by Armco in 1947. Pat pursued a life of service as an adult leader in Scouting. He was Scoutmaster of Monroe's Troop 7 in the mid-1970s. In January of 1975, years ahead of his time, he helped to form Explorer Post 7, the region's first coed Explorer Post. Post 7's focus was entertainment, and under his leadership Post 7 performed for various Scouting functions and civic groups for several years. Post 7 went to the National Explorer Olympics in Ft. Collins, Colorado in 1976. They would go on to create and perform shows at La Comedia Dinner Theatre in Springboro, and they ended their run with their "Grand Finale", directed by Paul Bell at Dave Finkelman Auditiorium in June 1978. Pat Stiles is also survived by many of these lucky young men and women that he always considered to be "his kids". Pat was followed into Scouting by his son Jon, his daughter Teri, and currently his grandson Andrew who is working on his Eagle Scout award, and his younger grandson Cody who is in Cub Scouts.
