William R. Thompson, 68, of Madison Township, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was born in Middletown on August 25, 1942 to parents Theodore and Lorine (Howard) Thompson.
Bill worked in the electric shop at Armco Steel Corporation and was executive director of the Butler County Veteran's Administration Office. He served his country in the United States Army and was a member and Past Post Commander (1986) of American Legion Post 218, member of DAV #131, VFW #3809 and Eagles Aerie #528.
Bill was a dedicated & loving husband, father and grandfather. He was adored by all of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Antje (Meliss) Thompson; daughters, Tyra Estridge, Kim (Barry) Wells and Bergit (Robert) Clark; mother, Lorine Thompson; brother, Theodore (Sue) Thompson; sisters, Delores Helsel and Loretta (Roger) Gillespie; sister-in-law, Debbie Thompson; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Kermit Thompson.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 13, 2010 at 5:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Scott Swelbar officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 15120 Collections Center Dr., Chicago, IL 60693.
