Zona Theresa Courey

Zona Theresa Courey, 91, of Middletown, died Monday, July 31, 2017, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. She was born in Middletown, Ohio on September 18, 1925 to parents Bocho and Cecelia (Vertich) Elieff.

Zona loved her job as a front desk clerk at the Manchester Hotel for 20 years. She was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Holy Family Parish-St. John's Church. She had a very generous spirit and donated to numerous charities. Zona was very active with her Class of 1943 High School Reunion committee, enjoyed dancing, and was a staple at Wendy's on Breiel Blvd, visiting there daily.

Mrs. Courey is survived by her son, James (Joy) Courey; daughter, Paulette McCandless; brothers, Matt Elieff & Tony Elieff; sisters, Frances Huntzinger, Barbara (Jim) Deger & Martha (Larry) Dennis; three grandchildren, Elisabeth (Troy) McCandless Edwards, Stephanie Courey & Jim Courey Jr.; and two great grandchildren, Jared Courey & Fox Edwards. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Courey in 1997; son-in-law, Jerry McCandless; parents; and sisters, Margaret Elieff & Marie Bewley.

Memorial prayer service will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 2:30 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Father John Civille officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1:30 - 2:30 pm.
